Testimonials
Dr. Matthew Busalacchi believes pharmacogenomics is a key component to the future of pharmacy. He believes pharmacists have an important role in working with practitioners to improve medication usage and outcomes for patients in the community. Matt attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison to pursue his prerequisites for pharmacy school, as well as complete his bachelor’s degree in genetics. He decided to stay in the Midwest and attend the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in 2016. He continued his passion for individualized medicine and pharmacogenomics by staying up-to-date with CPIC guidelines and taking an elective each semester that enabled him to be involved with pharmacogenomic research. Following graduation, Matt continued his career with CVS Health in California. He knew that his long-term career goal was to work in the field of pharmacogenomics to improve the health of patients, prevent adverse events, and optimize medication regimens. After CVS Health, he continued his career at Kaiser Permanente in inpatient pharmacy. During this next chapter of his career, he discovered the innovative work created by Dr. Jamie Wilkey. The passion that both individuals possessed for pharmacogenomics led Matt to his current role as Vice President of Operations for the PGx Consulting Confidence Academy, as well as developing his own pharmacogenomics consultant career.
